Yesterday we started the day at Crater Lake. This was not originally on our itinerary, but was mentioned to me by a friend as one of her favorite places, so Joe worked it in the schedule and boy are we glad we did. It is incredibly gorgeous and calming. Deep blue waters and cool, crisp air. Oregon is just beautiful and I'm adding it to my list of places I definitely want to visit again.
After Crater Lake we trekked over to the coast, but seeing that it was July 10, Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-a, we made a stop in Portland, donned our cow attire and ate a free dinner. We are not going to let being thousands of miles from home keep us from our traditions and I'll take any opportunity I get to not have to cook in my mini kitchen. In case you were wondering, Oregon CFA employees are just as friendly. They handed out sunglasses for the kids and free breakfast coupons for a later date.
No time to waste though, we needed to get on to the coast. Joe insisted we visit Cannon Beach which boasts the rock formation known as the Haystack. This was made popular in the movie The Goonies. I have never seen the movie, but watched this scene in preparation for the trip. This delighted Joe very much and he had fun posing the girls around the Haystack. Cannon Beach is a quaint little town with lots of shops, art studios, restaurants and of course ice cream. It is on my list of retirement vacation places!
So let's see as of now we have seen The Brady Bunch House in CA, The Full House house in CA, a scene from Goonies, at Cannon Beach, OR, the bridge they drive over in Short Circuit in Astoria, OR and the setting of Stand By Me in Castle Rock, OR. We are onto Seattle and sure hope we aren't Sleepless there. We are having a lot of fun exploring the other side of the country and loving the cooler temperatures!
Again the pix are great! You make me tired!
