Zion National Park was discovered by a Mormon travelling to find a place where followers could live without religious persecution. When he found this area, he called it Zion which means Jerusalem or Sanctuary. Many of the grand, stone mountains and ranges have religious names. My favorite structures were the Court of The Patriarchs - Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Other mountains were named The Great White Throne and Angels Landing. We trekked down the Riverside trail to view a place called the Narrows. Once you reach the Narrows, you can only pass through by hiking through the Virgin River. You can see in the pictures below the area where it becomes narrow.
Again, the shuttle system was well managed and added to our visit. We rode the shuttle bus from the visitor center up to the Temple of the Sinewava, did our hike to the Narrows and then rode the bus back down. We stopped at the Canyon Lodge for a pit stop and snack and at the Human History museum to watch the park video. Zion was a beautiful park boasting unique rock formations and designs. We also got to have some close encounters with several squirrels. They have obviously been fed because they were not afraid of people at all. We took a picture for Keegan. Joe wants to frame it and put it in her room:)
